sinuLog 2012
The Sinulog festival is one of the grandest and most colorful festivals in the Philippines with a very rich history. The main festival is held each year on the third Sunday of January in Cebu City to honor the Santo Niño, or the child Jesus. It is essentially a dance ritual which remembers the Filipino people’s pagan past and their acceptance of Christianity.
Last January 14, 2012, I woke up as early as 4 o'clock in the morning. As a cadet officer of Cebu Technological University Main Campus ROTC Unit, was a great privileged for me to be given the task to cordon the carroza of the image of our dear Sñr. Sto. Niño during the Fluvial and Solemn Procession. I had witnessed the strong devotion of the millions of people. Though it was not an easy task to guard the carroza but I and my co-officers did not endure the tiredness and the pain. Just imagine that we dutied at 5 o'clock in the morning up to 7 o'clock in the evening. Kapit-bisig para kay Niño!! Well, it was a great job indeed to protect the image of the Holy Child away from the dashing millions of devotees. As a part of the successful celebration, I could therefore say that "gravehh miLagro! daghana jud ug deboto ni Sñr. Sto. Niño" because even how the climate changes people were there just to be a part of the celebration!. Viva Pit Senyor!
